Hi, it's Adam Short here.
My desire to work for myself, rather than someone else, began in early childhood. My father was an entrepreneur and he encouraged me to "work for myself" as well.
I suppose this early conditioning had an impact on me because I wasn't a very good employee, especially when it came to doing office work. I always found ways to do anything other than what the job required (which I'm really not proud of).
Ultimately, a "real" job didn't cut it for me because I just couldn't stand the lack of freedom over my own time.
It all came to head when I was 21 years old and working at a company called Overture. They were the world's first online pay-per-click advertising search engine. It was an innovative company, with nice people, and they had a great product. But I was itching to set out and build a business of my own. Ironically, Overture provided the answer I was looking for - the Internet!
I noticed that Overture was growing by leaps and bounds as more and more companies were jumping aboard the online advertising bandwagon. I picked things up here and there and began to realize that many of these advertisers were just individuals, working from home, and making great money with their own websites. I figured I might give it a try myself.
I downloaded a few "how to make money online" eBooks and what I read excited me to no end. I realized pretty quickly at that point that I wanted to put my full effort into building an Internet business.
I ordered a few "how to" books from Amazon about ecommerce and followed the instructions on how to build a website. It was much easier than I had expected. I worked late into the night every evening after work and within a few weeks had my first website up and running online - a simple article-based website educating consumers about laptops.
I purchased a few more eBooks online about how to drive traffic and taught myself the basics of "search engine optimization" - how to get a site to rank well in Google, Yahoo! and other search engines.
Within about 6 months, I had several profitable websites and was making enough money to quit my job at Overture.
Now, I'm not going to say that I became a millionaire overnight, because that's not what happened. It took me a few years before I reached that stage, and it was a rocky ride, full of ups and downs. There were many times when I felt like giving up. But I pressed forward and eventually things eventually clicked into place.
Since then, my online business grown each year as I've continued to expanded my knowledge of the Internet. I've created and sold many different kinds of products online, including eBooks, software, membership websites, and physical products. I've created and run small niche websites and full-fledged ecommerce stores and I've worn the hat of both product vendor as well as product affiliate.
To date, my company has generated millions of dollars in revenue across over 300 different "niche" markets online.
The best part, for me, is that I've been able to build my business from my home office in Southern California. I've had offices before, but I always find that I prefer running my company from the comfort of home.

But nothing worth learning comes without at least some effort. If we think back to any skill we've learned in life, there was a learning process. Eventually though, with enough practice, the process becomes simple and even automatic. We don't think twice before doing it because we don't have to.
